Why Give to the Sister Alicia V. Cuarón Education Scholarship Fund?

CSJD_Patricia_May2018.jpgThe Sister Alicia V. Cuarón Education Scholarship Fund supports the family services and programs of Centro.

The fund was established to honor Sister Alicia Cuarón, founder of Centro’s Family Services Program (formerly Bienestar Family Services).

Serving Over 5,000 Students per Year

Sister Alicia is a lifelong advocate for Hispanic issues in business, leadership, and empowerment for our community.  Your gift to the scholarship fund helps provide a better future for people like Patricia.

MEET PATRICIA

Patricia came to the United States in 2011 as a single mother of four seeking a better life for her family. She was working at a meatpacking plant in a difficult, low wage job when she heard about Centro’s GED program.

Patricia received her GED after 5 months and could not imagine such a special group of people existed.

Inspired by her experience, she went on to participate in the following programs;  ESL, Financial Literacy, Small Business, and Tax-Aide.

“Coming to Centro helped me to realize and regain my sense of dignity. I learned that I can be an asset, that I have much to give.
I learned that I am full of potential and that the possibilities are endless.  However, I was not only lectured to, I was taught the necessary skills to accomplish my new possibilities.
I was taught that I am responsible for myself, my family, my community and my country.

The most fundamental aspect that I found at Centro was love.  I encountered love, patience, kindness, belief and a warm cup of coffee every time I came to class.
I now think that I must help others as much as I can because I was helped by Centro immeasurably.”

Patricia has been volunteering to help others at Centro as a Tax-Aide Certified Counselor for two years and recently enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree program (UPAEP) to start a lifelong dream of getting a degree in international business.
